Ambulatory (Outpatient) Detox

Along with the rise in other types of outpatient treatment services and virtual IOPs, there has also been an increase in the options for ambulatory detoxification. From outpatient detox clinics to office-based settings, there are a combination of approaches that can be used to help people safely withdraw from alcohol or other drugs.

This is usually accomplished by a combination of medications to help avoid severe withdrawal symptoms while reducing the dosage over time. In some cases, there may be long-term maintenance medication, such as buprenorphine for opioid addiction treatment. There are also a number of long-acting injections available to assist in the process and/or reduce cravings post-detoxification, such as with naltrexone.
